  • Okay, feel free to forward this to anyone you think may be interested.

We really hit the ground running on this missionary thing. We got off the airplane and were told that the school we were going to be working at would not open until August, but that if we wanted, we could move to Tegucigalpa and train with them (Harvest Christian School).  Then we were offered another job at a school in Danli (Children´s World School). We went to meet with the people from Harvest, who told us they could not pay us if we trained until August, but if wanted to get paid we could move to San Pedro Sula and teach until August. San Pedro is about six hours away from Danli, and our friends here. We spent a few days with the Harvest people looking at the school in San Pedro, but God eventually led us back to Danli.

We have decided to accept the job at the Children's World School in Danli. They have offered us L8000 a peice per month (about $500), plus two round trip tickets at the end of the school year. The school year runs from February to November, five days a week. I will be teaching first and second grade english and grammar. Jd will be teaching High School conversation and some English Literature. We start on Monday, having inservice for teachers and figuring out what exactly is going on. Students start on February 8th. School starts at 7 a.m., so we will arrive around 6:45, I am done at one, Jd is done at two. The school is about five minutes from where we live. I could walk home if I wanted to leave before Jd was done. The other school (Harvest Christian School) will open in Danli in August. We will decide at the end of our year with Children´s World if we want to join them. We love their hearts and their school, but did not feel it was right to move across the country. Ruth and Arturo´s (the pastor we work with and His wife) ninas attend Children´s world, but are 10 and 11 so will not be in our classes. They are very interested in us, but are also very shy. Everyone here is fascinated that we have a cat that lives in our house, plus Sal (the name of our cat) means Salt. I had no idea.

Danli is a good place for us. It is small and quiet. It is very safe. I went running this morning around 8 for the first time, and i felt fine. No one yelled things at me, no one even seemed to notice, so it was very nice. Danli also has our friends who will check on us and we will work with in the church. We can go to Teguc and get American things and see movies and go to the big grocery store and probably will about once a month.

As far as a house is concerned, we are still looking for one to rent, we are second in line for one house, but we will keep looking. We know that the neighborhood we live in now is where we want to be because it has an armed guard and is nice, plus the principle of the school lives here, and she is young and fun so we will most likely be good friends. Her name is Alicia Lanzo. We will also have Skype and a phone with an American number one we get internet. Because we are not yet citizens, we had to piggyback on Arturo´s internet account and get another card. The internet is run by the phone companies. It will take about ten days to get our card, and then we will hook up our phone and Skype and be able to talk to all!  We have a phone here, but we have to buy minutes and are a bit hesitant to call American because it takes 5 minutes for every one minute you talk to call america and we are not rich.

Please pray for us in the following ways:
Homesickness, culture shock, plus general well being.
That we would impact the school and the other teachers as well as the students for Christ.
That our marriage would stay strong and be a testimony to God´s grace and love for His church.

We love you, We miss you.

    Kacy (and JD)
