The Lord has been so gracious to us. His mercy is evident in the most random of ways and in the most wonderful ways. We started work today, where I will teach english, and so will Jd. It was encouraging to be accepted and know that the people there really are excited to have us, or at least that is what they tell us. One way the Lord blessed me was that my partner, who also teaches 1st and 2nd grade during the spanish part, well, she speaks english. She is very kind and very nice, plus she lived in Michigan for seven years so she will get some of my American ways. Also, Jd is really liking teaching, at least the first day of getting to know that school. He did not major in Education in school, nor has he taught in a school, so I was a bit nervous that he would hate it, but he really seems interested in his subjects (english, literature, and geography).
The Lord has blessed us with a friend named Asael, or Asa, for short. He laughs at everything at is generally in a joyous mood. He is 17 and likes to hang out with us. He speaks english well, and is super smart because he taught himself english by watching TV. God never fails to use Asa to lift my spirit. It´s nice to have someone who always laughs at your jokes.
The Lord has also blessed us by bringing us Ms. Alicia. She is the principal at the school, and she is super funny. She reminds me a lot of Allison Green, only with dark hair. She lives very close. She has really helped us get to know things about the school and is very concerned that we get along well in school. I knew I would like her when I met her in October. I found out that her brother passed away in December, and she has spoken with me about it. It will be nice to know that someone else understands the heartache of missing family, and that I don´t have to pretend around her.
The Lord has given me a great gift in that there are quite a few TV channels in English here. I know that may seem random, but I really enjoy TV. The noise helps when I feel like I am alone, and I just enjoy watching shows. Thank you Jesus for English TV channels. Except on one of the english channels, Glee is on in Spanish. Oh well.
The Lord also provided us with a lovely family to stay with. We have our own apartment upstairs, but we eat with Arturo, Ruth, and their daughters. Arturo is the pastor of the church we go to here, and they are very wonderful and kind people. We keep an English/Spanish dictionary at the table so we can speak when it is meal time.
We have had some moments of missing things and people. I expected to miss my family, my friends, ect. but missing radio, diet Dr. Pepper, The Village Church, the gym, QT, and other things has surprised me. I also am freezing! I did not pack any sweaters because I was moving to the tropics, however, the last two days have been quite chilly, and my hoodie jacket is not quite hacking it. I did not expect to need anything warm for here, but I was wrong. Oh well. Also, we need some cat litter. We bought a litter box and it had the most puny amount of litter in it, and we have not been able to find any since. Even the cat looks at us like ¨´Really, guys?¨. We are looking at some other places today, so maybe we will have some luck.
Love you guys.
P.S. people have been asking us our address and we have not gotten a PO Box yet. We will post the address as soon as we get the box. Please do not lose your fervor to send us packages. We are already talking about what we hope people send us. I want some conversation hearts and some pretzles. Jd originally wanted Hidden Valley Ranch, but we found a place that has it here.
Love you.
