Since the last post was such a downer, I thought we would take a moment to appreciate all the odd things Honduran people do.
10. Apparently zipping your fly here is a choice, not an obligation. If you feel like it, zip up, if not, it's okay. I have news for you Honduras, it is not okay. Please zip your zipper.
9. I have seen not one, but two people, on multiple occasions, put a bowl of corn flakes and milk in the microwave. Apparently, it's quite normal to do this. Apparently, corn flakes are quite the hot thing here as there are about thirty different brands of corn flakes. Not a joke. It's corn flakes, and then like three other cereals.
8. We have been stunned to discover that oatmeal here is drank, not eaten. There is no warm bowl of yummy goodness, instead you put some oatmeal in your glass of water and drink it. Gross.
7. People here hang the pictures in their house really high, like two feet or more above eye level.
6. Speaking of pictures in houses, I have seen framed pictures of Jean Claude Van Damme, and Hannah Montana.
5.The English radio station here is all eighties pop, all the time. We have heard the theme to Thundercats, the theme to Transformers, and a variety of other songs we wish we hadn't heard.
4. Tight is right here in Honduras. It doesn't matter if the jeans actually fit, or if the shirt is a little too small, if you can squeeze into it, it is for you. Muffin tops galore.
3. Men and women rarely wear shorts. I am not talking Daisy Dukes here, I am talking respectable khaki shorts for men, bermuda shorts for the ladies. No, apparently, in one hundred degree weather, the perfect look is jeans.
2. They have some really gross candies. One is called "Muss", and I will not eat it. Refuse. And I love candy. There is also this candy that they roll on like lip gloss and lick off. Nasty town. The good thing is, however, that the Hondurans are lovers of the caramel, and so am I . It is everywhere, in every yummy treat. I love caramels.
1. Milk and Water come in bags. A plastic sealed bag.
There are many more we see everyday, like how there are about thirty people in line at the ATM outside the coffee shop, how the cars honk as soon as the light turns green, how if someone knows any english at all, they will yell it at you (I hear a lot of "I love you"s, and a lot of "Good Morning" in the afternoon, ect.), also, the girls put on sunscreen to go to PE, which I find funny because they don't put it on to go outside for recess, but I guess sun damage only happens during PE. Also, a cow ran past my classroom yesterday. A cow. In my school. I hope that never gets old.
